What I Love To Do

I thought I ought to give you a peak at some of the things I love to do. While I make mostly for myself, my kids and as gifts, I am on the brink of beginning to sell my wares as well. It's terrifying. Will people like my work? Is it good enough? Well-made? Original?

A learning process in confidence, I am sure. What I do know is that I do it with love. Handmade anything holds so much value to me - and to a lot of you out there too! When something is created with a little bit of invention, a little bit of vintage, a little bit of found pieces and a lot of stitches it becomes a piece that is sentimental and special. It tells a story.

Far, Far Away Vest

So I had been frothing at the bit to get my hands on some of Heather Ross's Far Far Away II fabric, and I finally did at Vancouver's brand new Spool of Thread. It's beautiful fabric, a very linen feeling to it and I sewed this up that night for Frankie. It was one of those fabrics that you can barely cut into it's so beautiful, and I've saved every teeny tiny scrap for something else down the road.

 

A Few Things About Me

This is my family. They are my teachers, they are my believers. My husband Gabriel, my daughter Frankie and my son Charlie. They are the answer to everything. Love.

Fall Into New Beginnings

Fall is emerging in Canada, in my neck of the woods at least. The nights are cooler, cold enough that going outside barefoot is more stupid and less freebird. The garden is slowly losing it's color, the greens are fading to yellows and browns and whatever fruit or vegetable was missed is now falling to the ground.

Fall is emerging in our home, as suitcases of boots and hats replace the lazy freedom of flipflops and sunglasses and beach blankets. Felted pumpkins and hoards of fallen leaf arts and crafts are taking over the window sills and fridge space.

Fall is emerging in me, because after a summer of agonizing over my lack of knitting inspiration - just yesterday I picked up my needles once again and furiously knit all evening, only to break to shush a crying babe or pour another cup of tea. I find myself quieter, more reflective and more willing to be alone than I was this summer.

There is a lot more emerging from me, and from my family besides the changing of the season. We are on the brink of many new journeys, which I am so excited to begin to share with you here.  One of the many journeys that I am on, one that has been growing inside of me, encouraged by those around me and finally beginning to emerge is this. The beginning of Stitch Rabbit. Of course, in the dark of our bedroom, long after the babies and my husband have left for dream world I lay and imagine all the things that this could be, the dreams, the potential. But for now, my only hope, my only goal is that this becomes an outlet for me to speak, and share and simply be who I am in the late evenings, when nobody is around. Quiet, reflective, hands busy with work, ideas flowing and art making. Simply put, a very very busy rabbit.
